Alex hails from England and has played Saxophones and Woodwinds for over forty years. He has backed some of the greatest names in World music such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Junior, Jack Jones, Chaka Khan, Dianna Ross, Barry White, Michael Ball, Shirley Bassey and many others.
His freelance career has taken him around the World and seen him play alongside some of the World’s finest musicians at venues such as Ronnie Scotts and the Montreaux Jazz Festival and many others.
His formidable skills as a Saxophone and Woodwind player have made him the number one call in New Zealand (where he now resides) for TV, studio, concert and touring work. Since moving to NZ in 2003 Alex has been featured on over twenty albums three of which have been voted the Tui Jazz Album of the year award. He has been the lead Saxophone player on the TVNZ hit series “Dancing with the Stars” for five episodes. He is the lead Alto Saxophone player in NZs premier big band The Wellington Jazz Orchestra backing artists such as Eric Marienthal, Bob Sheppard, Clay Jenkins etc.
He is also a Senior Lecturer at the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington where he has taught for the last three years.
His range of instruments played includes Soprano, Alto, Tenor and BaritoneSaxophones, Piccolo, Flute, Alto Flute and Bass Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Akai EWI 4000s, Shakuhachi and Xiao and his musical versatility sees him employed in all areas of music from Jazz to Classical and everything in between.
